BELLES OF THE MILL, A Musical Drama

Lawrence, Massachusetts. 1912. Thousands of immigrant textile workers begin a bold strike. Sarah Weissmann, a Jewish midwife, finds herself caught up in the struggle of the women who are her patients. Bridget Gallagher, a young Irish mill worker, finds her faith in God and in humanity sorely tested.

THE BELLES OF THE MILL

Lawrence, Massachusetts. 1912. In the throes of a bitter New England winter, thousands of immigrant mill workers begin a bold strike - and the lives of two very different women are forever changed...

Bridget Gallagher, a young Irish mill worker, finds her faith in God and in humanity sorely tested. Sarah Weissmann, a Jewish midwife, is caught up in the struggle of the women who are her patients, risking both her career and her family.

CLARY'S EXODUS

New York City, 1926. Prohibition is in full swing and Harlem nightclubs are sizzling hot. Clary Hayes, a fast-living black blues singer, shocks her devout Baptist mother with the revelation that her daughter Phoebe is half-Jewish. Clary then secretly enlists the help of a local Rabbi's wife in teaching Phoebe about her heritage. To everyone's surprise, particularly Clary's, she soon finds herself embarking on her own spiritual journey.

A heartfelt drama about three generations of a New England family. The play follows Grace, a feisty, witty American woman, over fifty years of her journey through life, from the 1940's to the 1990's, and traces her relationships with her children and grandchildren.

LENNON, A LIFE

Play with music. 10M, 5F. Running time is 130 minutes (2 acts).

This biographical drama traces the life of John Lennon from early childhood through his death in 1980. The thirteen original songs run the gamut from Buddy Holly-flavored rockers through experimental music, protest songs, and finally a lullaby written by John for his son Sean. Neither canonization nor character assassination,
Lennon: A Life is a straightforward, comprehensive portrayal of a complex musical genius.

QUANTUM TREK/DEEP SPACE LEAP

Parody. 6M, 4F for the first episode. 9M, 2F for the second episode. Or 10M, 4F for full evening.
Running time of each episode is one hour.

Two spoof episodes combining "Quantum Leap" with various incarnations of "Star Trek" and including parody commercial breaks.


THE UNDERSTANDING

Drama. 3F, 2M. Running time is 120 minutes (2 acts).

Argentina, 1995. Amidst growing civil unrest in the aftermath of Argentina's "Dirty War" Victor Cordoba, a prominent physician, is implicated in twenty-year-old war crimes; and long-hidden secrets threaten to engulf his family and destroy his life.

ALLEGRO (part of GRACE NOTES)

Drama. 5F. Running time: 40 minutes.

1966-67: Grace's 19 year old daughter, Catherine, arrives home for Christmas five months pregnant. Grace decides that the baby will be relinquished for adoption, but Catherine is equally determined to keep her child.


CODA (part of GRACE NOTES)

Drama. 2F. Running time: 10 minutes.

1978: Catherine is helping her mother Grace move into a new apartment. The resentments and affection between the two women surface as strong as ever, despite years of separation.


DIFFERENT GIFTS

Comedy. 3F or 3M or any combination. Running time: 10 minutes.

Randy, Jody and Alex have all tried out for the school play. When the cast is posted, each must come to terms with some surprising results and adjust their self-image.

NERISSA'S QUEST

Ireland.  The present.  When 11 year old Nerissa sets out to find her disappeared mother, she ends up learning some  amazing secrets about her family and herself.


POOL OF TEARS

Comic. 2F, 2M. Running time: 10 minutes.

Alice and Not-Alice duke it out in Wonderland. Loosely inspired by Louis Carroll.


PRELUDE (part of GRACE NOTES)

Drama/comedy. 2F. Running time: 10 minutes.

1946: Grace, 34, is about to marry for the second time. Her apprehension is shared by Molly, 12, the precocious daughter of the groom.

RONDO (part of GRACE NOTES)

Drama. 1M, 1F. Running time: 10 minutes.

1957: Grace struggles to gain the cooperation of her rebellious teenage son, Jason, in preserving family solidarity when he discovers a shameful secret.


SOWING THE SEEDS (part of GRACE NOTES)

Drama/comedy. 3F, 1M. Running time: 50 minutes.

1994: Returning home after many years to attend a memorial service for her father, Catherine struggles to establish a positive relationship with her children, as she wrestles to come to terms with her own past.


WHEELIES

Drama. 1M, 1F. Running time: 10 minutes.

The present, a large studio apartment in Brooklyn. Robin returns to her paraplegic ex-boyfriend's apartment to collect her belongings. Surprised when Tracy arrives home early, she makes one last attempt to convince him not to end the relationship.


THE WICKHAM WAY

Comedy.  2F, 1M.  Running time: 10 minutes.

Wickham, Vermont. The present.  Liza, a rising singer-songwriter, returns to the small Vermont town where she grew up, intending to buy a bed & breakfast inn owned by her crusty fifth-grade teacher, Abner Morse.  When Abner meets Liza's life partner, Marti, a plain-spoken investment banker, he has second thoughts...but not for the reasons you'd think...


THE WISEST OF FOOLS

Comedy. 3M, 1F. Running time: 10 minutes.

18th century Poland. Rabbi Nachum is the wisest man in Chelm, a town of well-meaning, civic-minded fools.  Beset by his student, his wife, and the Chief Sage, he tries to keep Chelm running smoothly...and maybe catch the moon in a barrel.
